he first moment of the Kolypera’s family with wine started in 1960 by Christos Ch. Kolyperas with the viticulture of indigenous varieties such as Roditis Alepou and Mavroudi in the area of Farai of Achaea. His purpose was to trade part of the grapes in wine-making cooperatives and part of them for winemaking.
Y
ears later, in 1988, his sons decided to continue the family’s viticultural history with a more professional approach, expanding our vineyards and adding over the years international PGI and local PDO varieties such as Roditis, Mavrodaphne of Patras, Moscato of Patras, Asirtiko, Chardonnay, Ugni Blanc, Sauvignon Blanc, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Grenache Rouge.
I
n 1992 the construction of our first winery in Farai in Achaia, was completed in the same estate where we had our first vineyards. Our love for quality wines was recognized and in year 2000 we proceeded in the modernization of our winery with a modern and fully automatic processing line. Which enabled us to triple our production capability. Our emphasis was on the production and bottling of PDO and PGI wines.
W
ith the constant expansion of our sales in Greece and after 25 years in the winemaking, in 2013 Kolypera brothers decided to leave the family business and pass it to Oenologist Christos D. Kolyperas (Dott. In Viticoltura Ed Enologia, Facolta Di Agraria, Ancona – Italia) and his sister Vassiliki D. Kolypera (Graduate in Sociology of the University of Crete). By combining classic and new vinification processes for the quality increase and focusing on the wine combinations, we added sparkling wine as well as the aged semi-sweet wine to our products.
O
ur passion for the development of new innovative products that respond to the new ways of lifestyle, led us to successfully to collaborate with recognized academics of the University of Patras, applying our own vinification protocols in combination with new technologies that affect the energy molecular structure of wines. Thus, in 2018 and after two years of research, we developed in an experimental stage the first Greek dry wine with reduced alcohol and almost double concentration in antioxidant compounds. The registration of our first patent motivated us to further research on the beneficial aspects of grape waste. Since 2019 we have launched a second research program in collaboration with the University of Patras and the University of Thessaly for the exploitation and utilization of the beneficial elements from grape-waste.
